“Sit down and let me tell you a story.”

Smoke in the Air. Stories in the Strings.

I’ve spent a good part of my life chasing horizons, sailing oceans, wandering down roads I had no business being on, and getting acquainted with women my better judgment warned me about.

Fortunately, I’ve never paid much attention to my better judgment.

Along the way, I’ve collected a few stories. Some are about the sea. Others come from smoky blues joints, Louisiana swamps, and nights that started innocently enough but took some rather interesting turns.

A few are about love. A few about trouble. And I’ve discovered there’s not always much difference between the two.

Most of those stories eventually found their way into a song. The others? Well, a gentleman ought to keep a few secrets.

Fortunately, nobody’s ever accused me of being much of a gentleman.

So pull up a chair. Pour yourself something worth drinking.

I’ve got an old guitar, a little whiskey, and more stories than good sense.

And if you’re easily offended, you might want to sit a little farther from the stage.

The Stories Behind the Songs

Every song has a story. Some began a thousand miles offshore, with nothing but ocean in sight. Others started in smoky bars, Louisiana swamps, or in the company of a woman I probably should’ve known better than to trust.

Some stories are funny. Some still hurt a little. And a few are so unlikely you might think I made them up.

But I’ve lived long enough to know that truth doesn’t always need much help being interesting.

Come on in. Let me tell you how a few of these songs came to be.
